Kindergarten

Well.  It happened.  Dex has started Kindergarten.  I can't believe how fast this 5 years has gone.  I remember thinking "by the time he starts school, I'll have done..." or "by the time he starts school, we will be..." A benchmark that seemed so far away and now here it is!  Just like that.

It literally felt like it just snuck up on me.  I wasn't really sure how to prepare for it.  Outside of buying his school supplies and making sure he went to school with a snack the first day.  I was in a constant state of feeling like I should be doing something, but at the same time feeling like there was nothing to do!  Ha!

So, now he's completed his second day, and really... it's not much different than the last several years of our life, except that now he gets to say he's in Kindergarten instead of at Mrs. K's school :)  Oh, and I have to wait in a pick-up line now!  Those are fun.

I know he will be doing more and learning more and napping less, so I understand it will be bigger changes for him than it appears that it will be for me.  My prayer is that he will embrace it and thrive this year.  He's a social little guy, so I don't anticipate it being terribly difficult for him.

The first day of school, I picked him up, probably more excited than he was, and asked "What did you do today??!!"  And he looked at me and said "I don't remember!"  Just like a teenager already!  Nice :)  He seems to like it though and I really like his school, so I feel like we're going to have a great year!! Here's to new changes for the better!

And big changes for Annabel, as well.  She's graduated to Mrs. K's school since turning 2.  So, she's on a new schedule and growing up and learning.  She can count to 15, say her ABC's, and recite the entire Frozen movie.  Look at my babies getting big!!

Time at the Lake

From our trip to Grapevine Lake today.  We had so much fun.  We actually spent most of the time in the water, but I can't take pictures out there ;)  The water felt amazing, the kids were happy... it was great day :)  It was the perfect way to lift my spirits and take some time not to think about anything else except what was going on right then in that moment.

Anna wanted me to hold her while we were in the water, but she got braver and braver the longer we were out there and was swimming around by herself before we left.  She did really well!

We Are Country Kids

These two...  I mean, really.

My Baby Girl

I've been taking a lot of pictures of Anna lately because she just turned 2 and I wanted ONE good picture of her smiling at me, genuinely happy and laughing so I can remember that beautiful face!  I've set up shoots and had Sean help and had my mom help, and she just never cooperated like I wanted.  I got some cute pictures, but not the "one" I have in my head.  She and I were outside today playing in the sandbox filled with brand new sand (thanks to Poppy & Emi!) and I decided to get a couple of pictures because she just looked so dang cute.  And wouldn't you know it, I got the smile!!!!

(Let's not talk about the bright yellow Dickey's cup in the background!  Haha!)

Here are some more from our time outside, just because  :)

And after having such fun together, right about NOW is when she decided the truck she'd been pouring water and sand into needed to be played with inside.  I said 'no', aaaaaaanndddd... cue the meltdown.

 (pouty face)

It was fun while it lasted  :)

Anna's Birthday Party

We had some family and a few friends over to help celebrate Anna's 2nd birthday.  It was HOT outside so we did a little swimming and eating cake and ice cream.  Nothing against those Winter birthdays (Dex), but Summer birthdays are pretty sweet :)

I did a rainbow cake, so I made some rainbow fruit skewers to go along with that "theme".  Thanks Pinterest!

I had some left-over pieces from the cake and made these cake cups with them.  I may start doing this more often!  So cute!

You might notice a Minnie Mouse theme as you look through these ;)

What are they looking at?!

Love the dazed looks as they stuff full of sugar ;)

Hamming it up for about 5 seconds!  I never catch this on camera!

We opened presents throughout the day because she would open one and then run off to play with it and once she seemed to slow down, we'd try to get her to open another.  I think we got everything done right before bed :)

Taking Minnie for a little swing.
