Dex's 3rd Birthday

Pictures from Dex's 3rd birthday party.  He's all about Thomas these days, so I found Thomas wrapping paper, plates, napkins, and cups, and made a Thomas cake.  I made it the day before his birthday, and every time he'd go in the kitchen he'd say "There's my Thomas cake, Mommy!"  And then every day after his birthday (since we had a ton left over), he'd come in the kitchen and tell me "I need cake!"  Breakfast, lunch, or dinner, it didn't matter.  He NEEDED it.  Like, really badly.

I'm still sad that his birthday is so close to Christmas, but I think it'll get better.  We did invite our neighbors over for cake, and they have a little boy that's Dex's age and they had a big ol' time.  That was nice :)

Happy Birthday, Declan!

A Thomas umbrella.  He actually used this today when he was walking up to his "school," and he had a big smile on his face the entire time.  He loved it!!

That fake "cheese" smile...

... and again...

...AND again.

That's a little better, although I think he's saying something here :)

Now for his favorite part.  CAKE!

Christmas Morning!

We got to spend Christmas morning in our own house this year.  It was pretty fun!  Especially since Dex is old enough now to kinda understand what's going on and believe that Santa brought him lots of cool presents  :)  He got a lot of goodies, for sure!  And I'm happy to say, none of the toys made ANY noise! SCORE for Mommy and Daddy!

His favorite thing... trains.

He got this tricycle, which was apparently made for a teenager.  Geez, it's big!  It sure didn't look that big on the box.  Hopefully he'll be able to ride it sometime this year.

A trampoline for all the jumping he loves to does.  He got off it one time and said, "Mommy, that's hard work!"  Exactly, my child... EXACTLY.

Christmas with the Mills's

Dex stayed at Emi & Pop's house for a few days before Sean and I got there the Friday before Christmas.  Every time I talked to my mom on the phone, Dex had "convinced" her to let him open another present.  I'm surprised he had any left when we got there!!  I suppose that's the joy of having a grandchild :)

I'm pretty sure this barn set was an early one.  And it's not even a little gift!  They must have ran out of those earlier in the week.

Uncle Blake's contribution:

I'm not sure what this face was... but he wanted to wear the shirt to my Christmas Eve Gift...

Me with the bottoms on and him with the top:

Dex's new harmonica.  He was surprisingly not terrible!  (I'm not sure if anyone is really terrible at the harmonica, though)

One of his favorite toys... A bulldozer from Uncle Levi.

Santa made his appearance before we left on Saturday.  You can see through the pictures that we kept getting Dex closer and closer to him... he wasn't all that excited about it, but with a little "gentle coaxing" he got fairly close.  Maybe next year.

At least Emi likes Santa :)

More Things He Says

Dex has been staying home with Daddy this week.  Sean sent me a couple of texts of things Dex said that made me laugh out loud, so I wanted to write them down to remember.

Sean: A Linkin Park Song came on while we were dancing and Dex said, "This is Rock n Roll, Daddy!"

Sean: Dex just said, "I don't want to eat now Daddy.  Thank you though."

Here's a video with him just saying 'no thank you though.':

Happy 3rd Birthday, Dex!!

As of 4:55 am this morning, we officially have a 3 year old!  He is the most wonderful Christmas gift we could ever have received!

He loves:
- Trains (Thomas the Train in particular)  He plays with his trains constantly and usually takes at least one of his trains with him wherever we go.
- Jumping.  On the beds.  On the floor.  Off the couch.  Whatever and wherever!  Could be why he received a trampoline and a bouncy ball hopper thingie (official name) for Christmas.  I'm thinking we might need to invest in a helmet soon.
- Having somebody to play with (although he's been playing independently more often lately).
- Visits from Tia, Poppy & Emi, Mimi & Daddy Doug.  Anytime they leave, he asks where they went for at least the rest of the day.
- 'PBJ & Jelly' Sandwiches.
- Milky Ways.
- Donut holes.  Especially the chocolate ones.
- Riding in Daddy's car.
- Playing OUTSIDE!  If he could sleep outside, he'd be in heaven.

Talking:
- He talks constantly.  Commentating what's going on... repeating what anyone just said... telling you exactly what he's doing... it doesn't matter, as long as his mouth is moving, he's pretty happy.
- He just started with the WHY?  Sean got the why question about 50 times yesterday, and he finally just answered 'I just told you' over and over again.  Ha!  This is going to be F-U-N.
- When you ask him why he did something he says 'but I want to!'  And if you ask him why someone else did something he says 'but he/she want to!'  Why is your bear out of your bed?  But he want to!
- Wherever we are, he says HI! and waves to anyone that we pass.  Usually people respond with a smile and a hello, thankfully.  Then Dex will turn to me and say "I just told that girl hi, Mommy!"  (here's where he starts commentating again)
- He hears "what do you say?" so many times, that now he just responds "Please and thank you."  Yep, that pretty much covers everything.

And on and on and on I could go.  Dex - you are the most precious little boy and we love you SOOO much!  I hope that 3 is the best year of your little life so far :)  You make your Daddy and I proud every single day.  xoxoxoxo
